Welcome To Crafty Shirley's Web Site

I began making my own cards in January 2005, following a long period of re-habilitation after an operation. You might be curious "why cards" when there are so many crafts to choose from. Well making a card is very rewarding, personal, satisfying, but most of all, great to give - just think how special it is for someone to make a card just for you! When you make your own cards they can be as simple or detailed as you wish and are always special. They are treasured by the recipient because you made it just for them.

Getting Started

There are many suppliers of card making materials, both in towns or via the Internet - even some Garden Centres have supplies. Once you have found your Supplier go and see what materials are available - look round Craft Fairs, Card Shops - anywhere you might find inspiration. There are various magazines on crafting, however my favourite is do crafts, which is only available from Craft Shops every 3 months. Use the Internet as there are dozens of Crafting Suppliers, my favourite is docrafts.co.uk. Some Craft Stores offer Workshops, these are a good way to learn. Keep building your stock up, keep it together - I use a couple of large plastic boxes with lids and smaller compartmented storage boxes.

The more cards you make, the more you will want to make and the more confident you get encouraging you to branch out. I have made keyrings, trinket boxes, beer mats, decorated plain vases, plant holders, candle holders and calendars - just let your imagination run riot. Have a look at my Craft Gallery to see some of my work.
